Forget shops and other attractions that could kill boredom while waiting for your plane, here you can completely free of charge contemplate the views worthy of a Caribbean island. Juancho E. Yrausquin airport is located on the island of Saba, an overseas municipality of the Netherlands. It has one of the shortest runways in the world, which measures only 305 meters, which is slightly longer than … a medium-sized aircraft carrier.

This is a challenge for every pilot, but these are not all the difficulties that can be encountered here. There are hills on one side of the runway and a high cliff on the other. Only helicopters and STOL planes can use the runway here. Windward Islands Airways is so far the only airline serving the airport on Saba.

They offer daily flights to and from nearby islands, St. Martin and Saint Eustatius. Flight to St. Martin only takes 12 minutes! The terminal building has offices, a fire department and a tower. At the airport it is not possible to refuel aircraft.
